Another great way to celebrate Valentine's Day with your family is to bake together. If you have small children, you know how recipes need to be easy to execute and not require a lot of time or else everyone may lose it. A favorite activity with my sons is to make rice krispy treats! Below is a simple and delightful Valentine's Day recipe that kids can enjoy making with their parents:

Valentine's Day Heart-Shaped Rice Krispie Treats

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal

  • 4 cups miniature marshmallows

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter

  • Red or pink food coloring

  • Heart-shaped cookie cutter

  • Pink and/or red frosting (optional)

  • Valentine's Day-themed sprinkles (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Measure out 6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal and set aside. Have the miniature marshmallows, unsalted butter, and food coloring ready.

  2. Melt the Marshmallows: In a large saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. Add the miniature marshmallows and stir continuously until the marshmallows are completely melted and smooth.

  3. Add Food Coloring: Add a few drops of red or pink food coloring to the melted marshmallow mixture. Stir until the color is evenly distributed. Adjust the intensity of the color according to your preference.

  4. Combine with Rice Krispies: Remove the saucepan from the heat. Add the Rice Krispies cereal to the marshmallow mixture. Stir quickly and thoroughly until the cereal is well coated.

  5. Press into a Pan: Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking pan. Use a spatula or wax paper to press the mixture evenly into the pan.

  6. Cool and Cut: Allow the Rice Krispie mixture to cool and set for about 30 minutes. Once it's firm, use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out heart shapes from the cooled mixture.

  7. Optional: Decorate with Sprinkles or Frosting: If desired, add Valentine's Day-themed sprinkles on top of the heart-shaped treats for an extra festive touch.

  8. Enjoy and Share: Once the treats are completely cooled and set, they are ready to be enjoyed! Share these heart-shaped Rice Krispie treats with friends, family, or as a sweet Valentine's Day surprise.

This easy and delicious recipe allows kids to participate in the kitchen, creating a fun and tasty treat to celebrate Valentine's Day with their parents.
